Lift Check Valve:This valve operates by having its disk lifted off the seat to permit downstream flow. When the upstream pressure returns to a higher condition, the disk closes. It requires little maintenance, as it has only one moving part and little wear.This type of valve utilizes a flapper attached to a hinge at the top of the valve to regulate the direction of flow in the valve. Forward flow through the valve causes the flapper to move up to the open position. Backward flow in the valve pushes the flapper back against the seat, closing the valve.
Swing Check Valve:Swing check valves are the most common in the market. They have a straight-body design or a Y-pattern.This style of valve uses a disc-shaped flapper attached to a hinge to regulate flow. Forward flow in the valve causes the flapper to rotate and open the valve. A reversed flow causes the flapper to rotate back to rest against the seat and close the valve.A butterfly-type valve has a disk that swings on a hinge-like apparatus to stop the flow. Large check valves are often this type. The disk is heavy, which causes damage over time to the seat as it closes, making it a higher-maintenance item.

A check valve is a valve with a spherical disc, the part of the valve which controls the flow through it. The sphere has a hole, or port, through the middle so that when the port is in line with both ends of the valve, flow will occur. When the valve is closed, the hole is perpendicular to the ends of the valve, and flow is blocked. The handle or lever will be inline with the port position letting you “see” the valve’s position. The ball valve, along with the butterfly valve and plug valve, are part of the family of quarter turn valves.
Check valves are durable and usually work to achieve perfect shutoff even after years of disuse. They are therefore an excellent choice for shutoff applications (and are often preferred to globe valves and gate valves for this purpose). They do not offer the fine control that may be necessary in throttling applications but are sometimes used for this purpose.
Check valves are used extensively in industrial applications because they are very versatile, supporting pressures up to 1000 bars and temperatures up to 200°C. Sizes typically range from 0.5 cm to 30 cm. They are easy to repair and operate.
